King Sunny Ade’s record-setting Fender Strat guitar auctioned for a whooping N52million has been a major buzz in the Nigerian media space since his 70th birthday event went down a few days ago.
The feat which was reported by Celeb Police, however, left everyone in the dark with regards to the name of the collector who bought the piece as it remained anonymous.
The starting bid of N9 million was followed by a very competitive bidding war by the well-heeled audience comprising influential businessmen such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr. Femi Otedola, before closing at N52.1 million.
Further investigations have revealed who actually bought the iconic musician’s guitar. The winning bid of N52.1 was won by Nigerian mogul, Tunde Folawiyo, the son of late Nigerian businessman, Wahab Folawiyo.
According to Wikipedia, Tunde Folawiyo is Managing Director of the Yinka Folawiyo Group, an organisation with interests in energy, agriculture, shipping, real estate and engineering. A conglomerate that was founded by his father, Wahab Folawiyo, Tunde took over the organisation in 2008 when his father passed. He also serves as Director of MTN Nigeria Ltd, Executive Director of Yinka Folawiyo Group of Companies. Tunde also founded Folawiyo Energy Ltd, a subsidiary of the Yinka Folawiyo Group of Companies.
